SILVER BISON RANCH PHOTO GALLERY

The Silver Bison Ranch is home to over 400 American Plains Bison.  We work hard to maintain a good environment for them and for ourselves by protecting the land and water around them.  The pastures are rotated frequently to maintain adequate forage growth and to allow natural clean up of the manure by soil insects so that the bison will continue to have a place to graze.  We manage our pastures mainly through carefully timed mowing and grazing to replicate the natural cycle of the prairies of the Old West.  Enjoy your visit to this page, please be patient as the pictures take a while to load; they are indeed worth the time.   Thanks,  The Smeesters

The fence visible in the background is made of recycled freeway guard rails mounted on recycled telephone/power poles.  This type of fence is strong enough to withstand impact without presenting any sharp surfaces that could cause injury to our animals.

The bull "Abraham" is in the foreground  and "Major" is just behind to the right.  Bison bulls are very attentive to their mates and will not tolerate another bull's interference.  Abraham is the dominant bull in this herd.

Curious would describe most bison, this cow is older and wiser (she knows who brings the chow), and here the photographer was being checked out just to see what he was doing.
